Tooling development — die design and validation at YO JYI

Overview

Tooling development is the process of translating a customer's part drawing into a production-ready stamping die. It covers drawing review, feasibility feedback, die design and tooling validation before a part moves into stamping production. This stage is where dimensional tolerances, forming sequence and material behavior are worked out, so downstream stamping, deep drawing and assembly steps run consistently at volume. Tooling development is typically required for new part numbers and design changes, and precedes first-article inspection.

Advantages

  • Drawing feasibility review before tooling commitment
  • Coordinated tooling design and part engineering
  • First-article validation prior to production release
  • Supports both new part development and design revisions

Supported Materials

  • Carbon steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Brass
  • Aluminum
  • Other metals on request

Equipment & Process Range

Tooling capacity, press tonnage and specific die configurations are confirmed per project based on part geometry and drawing requirements.

Specific equipment models, tonnage and unit counts are confirmed by engineering per project rather than published as general figures.

Workflow

  1. Drawing Review

Part drawings and specifications are reviewed for stamping feasibility and manufacturability.

  2. Die Design

Tooling is designed to match the required forming sequence, tolerances and production volume.

  3. Tooling Build & Trial

Dies are built and trial-run to confirm dimensional accuracy and process stability.

  4. First-Article Validation

Sample parts are measured against drawing specifications before production release.

Frequently Asked Questions

What file formats are accepted for a quote submission?

PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP, JPG and PNG files are accepted. Multiple files should be uploaded individually rather than as a compressed archive; each file must be 20MB or smaller.

What information do I need to provide for a metal stamping quote?

To request a quote, provide your part drawing (PDF, DWG, DXF or STEP), target quantity, material preference and any surface finish requirement. Submitting a drawing lets engineering confirm feasibility, tolerances and lead time for your specific part.

Can YO JYI develop tooling for a new part?

Yes. Tooling development covers drawing review, die design and first-article validation for new part numbers or design changes, ahead of stamping production.

Have a project for Tooling Development?

Submit your drawing for a project-specific quote.
